Lyrics to the hymn, Softly And Tenderly

 Trees, rocks, and snow

Hello, and welcome to the Mother of Gooses blog, where I write the lyrics to hymns, facts about instruments, and recipes to... Uh... Recipes.

Today, we have the lyrics to Will L. Thompson's hymn, Softly And Tenderly. It was published in 1880, and is one of he most popular hymns in modern day culture.

If you don't know how the tune goes, go to YouTube and look up Carrie Underwood, Alan Jackson, Kaleb Brasee, Keith and Kristyn Getty, the list goes on. So many people love and sing this song.

Now, on with the show!

Verse 1

Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling,

Calling for you and for me;

See, on the portals He's waiting and watching,

Watching for you and for me.

Chorus

Come home, come home,

Ye who are weary, come home.

Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,

Calling, "Oh sinner, come home!"

Verse 2

Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleasing,

Pleading for you and for me?

Why should we linger and heed not His mercies,

Mercies for you and for me?

Chorus

Come home, come home,

Ye who are weary, come home.

Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,

Calling, "Oh sinner, come home!"

Verse 3

Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing,

Passing from you and from me;

Shadows are gathering, deathbeds are coming,

Coming for you and for me.

Chorus

Come home, come home,

Ye who are weary, come home.

Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,

Calling, "Oh sinner, come home!"

Verse 4

Oh for the wonderful love He has promised,

Promised for you and for me!

Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon,

Pardon for you and for me.

Chorus

Come home, come home,

Ye who are weary, come home.

Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,

Calling, "Oh sinner, come home!"

    Afterwards

It's a very nice song, though verse 3 is kind of dark. And true.

The deathbeds ARE coming, and we need to prepare; tell people about Jesus, pray, hand out posters, and, most importantly, we need to read our Bibles and try to become more like Christ.

If there is anything that you want to know, let me know down in the comments. I would love to hear from you.

I update on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Random Chatty Days.

Goodbye, and God bless.
