Lyrics to the hymn, How Firm A Foundation

A rock and a tree

Introduction

Hello. I am a Mother of Gooses and a lover of hymns; I consider them to be a work of art. And they bring glory to God, our Creator and Redeemer, and Friend.

The ocean and the sky

The Subject At Hand

Today, we are looking at the lyrics to the hymn, How Firm A Foundation; it was published in 1178. However, nobody really knows who wrote it.

If you don't know how the tune goes, I'll leave some links down below.

This song can be sung to the tune of O Come, All Ye Faithful; so that is neat.

 Isaiah 43:1-5

Hebrews 13:5-6

"Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for He hath said, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."

So that we may boldly say, "The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.""

The Lyrics

Verse 1

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,

Is laid for your faith in His excellent word!

What more can He say than to you He hath said-

To you who for refuge to Jesus hath fled?

Verse 2

"Fest not, I am with thee, oh, be not dismayed,

For I am thy God, and will still give thee aid;

I'll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,

Upheld by My righteous, omnipotent hand.

Verse

"When through the deep waters I call thee to go,

The rivers of sorrow shall not overflow;

For I will be near thee thy trouble to bless,

And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.

Verse 4

"When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,

My grace, all-sufficient, shall be thy supply;

The flame shall not harm thee; I only design

Thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine.

Verse 5

"The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose,

I will not, I will not desert to its foes;

That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,

I'll never, no never, no never forsake."
