Lyrics to the hymn, Oh, How I Love Jesus

Trees and a dashboard

     Introduction

Hello, and welcome to the Mother of Gooses blog, where today, we are looking at the lyrics to the hymn by Frederick Whitfield, Oh, How I Love Jesus. He wrote it in 1855, and it is a very pretty song.

It is about how sweet the name of Jesus sounds to those who love Him and try to please Him, and how it helps them.

Carrie Underwood sang it, so go there to hear the tune; now, on with the show!

                  The Lyrics

Verse 1

There is a Name I love to hear,

I love to sing its worth;

It sound alike music in my ears,

The sweetest name on earth.

Chorus

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Because He first loved me!

Verse 2

It tells me of a Savior's love,

Who died to set me free;

It tells me of His precious blood,

The sinner's perfect plea.

Chorus

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Because He first loved me!

Verse 3

It tells me of a Father's smile

Beaming upon His child;

It cheers me through this little while,

Through desert, waste and wild.

Chorus

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Because He first loved me!

Verse 4

It tells me what my Father hath

In store for every day,

And though I tread a darksome path,

Yields sunshine all the way.

Chorus

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Because He first loved me!

Verse 5

It tells of One whose loving heart

Can feel my deepest woe;

Who in each sorrow bears a part

That none can bear below.

Chorus

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Because He first loved me!

Verse 6

It bids my trembling heart rejoice;

It dries each rising tear;

It tells me in a "still small voice"

To trust and never fear.

Chorus

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Because He first loved me!

Verse 7

Jesus, the Name I love so well,

The Name I love to hear;

No saint on Earth its worth can tell,

No heart conceive how dear.

Chorus

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Because He first loved me!

Verse 8

This Name shall shed its fragrance still

Along this thorny road,

Shall sweetly smooth the rugged hill

That leads me up to God.

Chorus

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Because He first loved me!

Verse 9

And there with all the blood-bought throng,

From sin and sorrow free,

I'll sing the new eternal song,

Of Jesus' love for me.

Chorus

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Oh, how I love Jesus,

Because He first loved me!

A very pretty house

      Afterwards

Well, what do you think? It had a lot more verse than I expected, but, if you know me, you know that I love knowing extra verses.

It gives you a edge, as you know something that lots of other people don't.

And, congratulations to Mr. Frederick Whitfield; he got almost all of the verses to rhyme!

I think that verse 8 should've been, "Along this road I trod", instead of "Along this thorny road".

Oh well.

If there is a subject that you want me to cover, let me know in the comments.

I update on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Random Chatty Days.

Goodbye, and God bless.
