Carrie Underwood: O Holy Night

The Subject At Hand

Merry Christmas! Today, we are looking at the lyrics to the hymn, O Holy Night, by Placide Cappeau in 1847; a gentleman by the name of John S. Dwight did the world a huge favor when he translated this lovely hymn.

If you don't know how the tune goes, I'll leave some links down below; Carrie Underwood does a great job.

Here's some scripture associated with O Holy Night:

Luke 2:8-11

"And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto them, "Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."

The Lyrics

Verse 1

O, holy night, the stars are brightly shining;

It is the night of the dear Savior's birth!

Long lay the world in sin and error pining,

'Til He appeared and the soul felt it's worth.

A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices,

For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees, o hear the angel voices!

O night divine, o night when Christ was born!

O night divine, o night! O holy night!

Verse 2

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,

With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.

So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,

Here came the wise men from Orient land.

The king of kings lay thus in lowly manger,

In all our trials born to be our friend!

He knows our needs-to our weakness is no stranger.

Behold your King; before Him lowly bend!

Behold your King; before Him lowly bend!

Verse 3

Truly He taught us to love one another;

His law is love, and His gospel is peace.

Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother,

And in His Name all oppression shall cease.

Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,

Let all within us praise His holy Name!

Christ is the Lord! O praise His Name forever!

His pow'r and glory evermore to proclaim!

His pow'r and glory evermore to proclaim!

A rocky creek

Afterwards

"And in His Name all oppression shall cease."

Amen. Come, Lord Jesus, come. End this sorrow.

A tree fell over and left a cave. Isn't it cool?❤️
