The Subject At Hand

Today, we are looking at the hymn, 'Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus; it was written in 1882 by Louisa M. R. Stead, and it talks about the beauty and serenity of resting in the love of Jesus, and how we can find joy when He is leading us.

Mrs. Stead wrote 'Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus while she was grieving the death of her husband, who had died in a drowning accident.

Another beautiful hymn, Day By Day, was written by somebody grieving a similar loss; Lina Sandell wrote Day By Day after seeing her father drown.

And Horatio G. Spafford wrote the hymn It Is Well With My Soul after his son died his business burned to the ground, and his four daughters drowned when two ships collided.

All of these people trusted in Jesus to help them overcome grief. Yes, 'tis sweet to trust in Jesus.

If you don't know how the tune goes, I'll leave some links down below so that you can find versions that I like.

Now, on with the show!

The Lyrics

Verse 1

'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,

Just to take Him at His word;

Just to rest upon His promise,

Just to know, "Thus saith the Lord."

Refrain

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!

How I've proved Him o'er and o'er;

Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!

Oh for grace to trust Him more!

Verse 2

Oh, how sweet to trust in Jesus,

Just to trust His cleansing blood;

And in simple faith to plunge me

'Neath the healing, cleansing flood!

Refrain

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!

How I proved Him o'er and o'er;

Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!

Oh for grace to trust Him more!

Verse 3

Yes, 'tis sweet to trust in Jesus,

Just from sin and self to cease;

Just from Jesus simply taking

Life and rest, and joy and peace.

Refrain

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!

How I proved Him o'er and o'er;

Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!

Oh for grace to trust Him more!

Verse 4

I'm so glad I learned to trust Thee,

Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;

And I know that Thou art with me,

Will be with me to the end.

Refrain

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!

How I proved Him o'er and o'er;

Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!

Oh for grace to trust Him more!

Afterwards

"Yes, 'tis sweet to trust in Jesus, just from sin and self to cease; just from Jesus simply taking life and rest, and joy and peace."

That is a nice verse; Jesus gives us so much. He died on a cross for our sins, and He now intercedes for us at the throne of God, as well as giving us love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control, comfort and guidance. We owe Him so much.
