Lyrics to the hymn, Follow Me, The Master Said

A rainbow

Introduction

Hello, and welcome to the Mother of Gooses blog, where I write about hymns, instruments, recipes, and animals; I hope that I can answer any questions that you might have.

A cloudy evening

The Subject At Hand

Today, we are looking at the lyrics to the hymn, Follow Me, The Master Said; it was written by William Stevenson* in 1880, and is now published in 58 hymnals. It isn't a super popular hymn, which is unfortunate, as it is BEAUTIFUL.

*(Some people aren't sure who wrote it; take my words with a grain of salt.)

If you don't know how the tune goes, and you'd like to hear it, I'll leave some links down below.

May God bless you as you read.

The Lyrics

Verse 1

"Follow me," the Master said:

We will follow Jesus.

By His word and Spirit led,

We will follow Jesus.

Still for us He lives to plead,

At the throne doth intercede,

Offers help in time of need;

We will follow Jesus.

Verse 2

Should the world and sin oppose,

We will follow Jesus.

He is greater than our foes;

We will follow Jesus.

On His promise we depend;

He will succor and defend,

Help and keep us to the end;

We will follow Jesus.

Verse 3

Though the way may dark appear,

We will follow Jesus.

He will make our pathway clear;

We will follow Jesus.

In our daily round of care,

As we plead with God in prayer,

With our cross which we must bear,

We will follow Jesus.

Verse 4

Ever keep the end in view;

We will follow Jesus.

All His promises are true;

We will follow Jesus.

When this earthly course is run,

And the Master says, "Well done!"

Life eternal we have won;

We will follow Jesus.

Afterwards

"When this earthly course is run, and the Master says, "Well done!""

I love that line; I can't wait to hear God say, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." It makes one inspired to be a kind person.

Let me say something really quick: you can't get to heaven by being a good person. I know some people who say that you can get to heaven by not killing or lying a lot or stealing. News flash: that is a lie that Satan is trying to tell you.

The only way to become saved is to believe that Jesus is

 king, and that He died for our sins, and that He rose again.

If you don't believe this, then you will not have eternal life in heaven, and the Master will not say that He is well pleased with you. Instead, you will go to Hell.

Why don't you except Jesus into your heart today? You don't have long.
