Lyrics to the hymn, Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

A pretty field

Introduction

Hello, and welcome to the Mother of Gooses blog, where I write about hymns, instruments, recipes, and animals; I hope that I can answer any questions that you might have.

The Subject At Hand

Today we are looking at the lyrics to the hymn, Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus, by Helen H. Lemmel; she wrote it in 1922. Over 100 years ago. Wow.

I wonder how many hymn writers thought that their little poems would someday be famous and well-loved hymns.

If you don't know how the tune goes, I'll leave some links down below; or, go to YouTube and look up Alan Jackson, Kaleb Brasee or Folksandhymns. They both do a good job, and I love their versions.

Now, on with the show!

The Lyrics

Verse 1

O soul, are you weary and troubled?

No light in the darkness you see?

There's light for a look at the Savior,

And life more abundant and free!

Refrain

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,

Look in full in His wonderful face,

And the things of Earth will grow strangely dim,

In the light of His glory and grace.

Verse 2

Through death into life everlasting

He passed, and we follow Him there;

O'er us sin no more hath dominion-

For more than conquerors we are!

Refrain

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,

Look in full in His wonderful face,

And the things of Earth will grow strangely dim,

In the light of His glory and grace.

Verse 3

His Word shall not fail you- He promised;

Believe Him, and all will be well;

Then go to a world that is dying,

His perfect salvation to tell!

Refrain

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,

Look in full in His wonderful face,

And the things of Earth will grow strangely dim,

In the light of His glory and grace.

The sky

Afterwards

"Then go to a world that is dying, His perfect salvation to tell!"

I like that line; Miss Lemmel did a great job. I have a great deal of respect for hymn writers; it is so cool how people can use words to fit a tune, and tell a beautiful story.

It is something for me to work on; I want to be a song writer.

There is supposed to be a bear on this hill
