Lyrics to the hymn, Just As I Am, Thine Own To Be
Hello, and welcome to the Mother of Gooses blog, where I write about hymns, instruments, recipes, and animals; I hope that I can answer any questions that you might have.
Today we are looking at the lyrics to the hymn, Just As I Am, Thine Own To Be, by Marianne Farningham in 1887.
It's kind of like Just As I Am by Charlotte Elliott; it has the line "Just as I am" and it ends on the line "I come."
Hmm, somebody must have been a fan of the other; Charlotte Elliott wrote hers in 1835.
I don't know. Maybe they're completely unrelated. Maybe. I just don't know.
If you don't know how the tune goes, I'll leave some links down below.
Now, on with the show!
Verse 1
Just as I am, Thine own to be,
Friend of the young, who lovest me,
To consecrate myself to Thee,
O Jesus Christ, I come.
Verse 2
In the glad morning of my day,
My life to give, my vows to pay,
With no reserve and no delay,
With all my heart I come.
Verse 3
I would live ever in the light,
I would work ever for the right;
I would serve Thee with all my might;
Therefore, to Thee I come.
Verse 4
Just as I am, young, strong, and free,
To be the best that I can be
For truth, and righteousness, and Thee,
Lord of my life I come.
Verse 5
With many dreams of fame and gold,
Success and joy to make me bold,
But dearer still my faith to hold,
For my whole life, I come.
Verse 6
And for Thy sake to win renown,
And then to take the victor's crown,
And at Thy feet to cast it down,
O Master, Lord, I come.
Isn't it nice? Do you see how I mean that it's like Charlotte Elliott's hymn?
I even tried singing this hymn to Just As I am, and it works, for the most part; the last part doesn't work too well.
By the way, as I was getting ready to move on to the lyrics, I wasn't trying to rhyme; know, below, and show all rhyme, and it looks so corny. Sorry I'm not sorry.🤪
I hope that you enjoyed today's post; feel free to share it with your friends and family, and leave a comment.
