I Need Thee Every Hour

Introduction

Hello, and welcome to the Mother of Gooses blog, where I write about hymns, instruments, recipes, and animals; I hope that I can answer any questions that you might have.

The Subject At Hand

Today, we are looking at the lyrics to the hymn, I Need Thee Every Hour, by Annie S. Hawks in 1872; in the same year, Robert Lowry wrote the refrain.

It is a beautiful hymn, and it's message is so true; we need Thee every hour, most gracious Lord.

If you don't know how the tune goes, I'll leave some links down at bottom of the post.

Now, on with the show!

The Lyrics

Verse 1

I need Thee every hour, most gracious Lord;

No tender voice like Thine can peace afford.

Refrain

I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;

Every hour I need Thee;

Oh, bless me now, my Savior,

I come to Thee.

Verse 2

I need Thee every hour, stay Thou nearby;

Temptations lose their pow'r when Thou art nigh.

Refrain

I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;

Every hour I need Thee;

Oh, bless me now, my Savior,

I come to Thee.

Verse 3

I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain;

Come quickly and abide, or life is vain.

Refrain

I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;

Every hour I need Thee;

Oh, bless me now my Savior,

I come to Thee.

Verse 4

I need Thee every hour, teach me Thy will;

And Thy rich promises in me fulfill.

Refrain

I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;

Every hour I need Thee;

Oh, bless me now, my Savior,

I come to Thee.

Verse 5

I need Thee every hour, most Holy One;

Oh, make me Thine indeed, Thou blessed Son.

Refrain

I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;

Every hour I need Thee;

Oh, bless me now, my Savior,

I come to Thee.

Afterwards

Isn't it beautiful? I really like Olive Tree Hymns version of it; they label themselves as amateur musicians, but they are amazing.

"I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain."

We can never do without Christ; He gives us strength to get through trials, and He will never fail us. Just ask Him, and He will help.

"Oh, make me Thine indeed, Thou blessed Son."

Amen.
