The lyrics to the song, The Star Spangled Banner
Hello, and welcome to the Mother of Gooses blog, where I write about hymns, instruments, recipes, and animals. I hope that I can answer any questions that you might have.
Happy 4th of July, my friends. Today we celebrate the independence of America, and remember the sacrifice that our ancestors made so that we may enjoy freedom.
This is a 4th of July special, as I don't normally send out posts on Thursdays, so I hope that you enjoy it.
To honor the brave men who risked their lives (and in many cases lost them), I will write the lyrics to America's National Anthem, The Star Spangled Banner.
Mr. Francis Scott Key wrote it on the 14th of September, 1814, after the Battle of Fort McHenry. It was adopted as our country's national anthem in 1931.
If for some very odd reason you don't know the tune, follow the links I'll leave down below.
Now, as I have nothing else to say, on with the show!
Verse 1
O say can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Who's broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that the flag was still there.
O say does that star spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave?
Verse 2
On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep
Where the foes haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream.
'Tis the star spangled banner, o long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
Verse 3
And where is that band that so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footstep's pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave.
And the star spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
Verse 4
When our land is illumined with Liberty's smile,
If a foe from within strikes a blow at her glory,
Down, down with the traitor that dares to defile
The flag of her stars and the page of her story!
By the millions unchained who our birthright have gained,
We'll keep her bright blazon forever unstained!
And the star spangled banner in triumph shall wave
While the land of the free is the home of the brave.
Verse 5
O thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation!
Blest with victr'y and peace, may the Heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
I bet that you didn't know that it had so many verses. Isn't it beautiful?
When I hear it, it stirs my heart with a love for our country; it gives me pride for America.
And to be honest, our country is in a sorry state. Abortion, transgenderism, adultery, and drugs are a few reasons to be ashamed of our country. America has sunk low.
But God has mercy and forgiveness, and that is why we aren't dead yet.
So while you celebrate the 4th of July with picnics and fireworks, thank God for the people who have died for our freedom, and thank Him for His everlasting love.
Also, if you know somebody who served our country, thank them for me; and of you were a member of our military, I salute you. Thank you for your sacrifice.
Let me know down in the comments what you thought of today's post; I love hearing from you.
I send out new content every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and the occasional Random Chatty Day; go to past posts to read more.
Goodbye, God bless, and happy Independence Day.
