Lyrics to the hymn, Soldiers Of Christ Arise

Introduction

Hello, and welcome to the Mother of Gooses blog, where I write about hymns, instruments, recipes, and animals; I hope that I can answer any questions that you might have.

The Subject At Hand

Today, we are looking at the lyrics to the hymn, Soldiers Of Christ Arise, by Charles Wesley. He wrote it in 1749, and George J. Elvey composed a tune for it in 1868.

It is sung to the tune of Crown Him With Many Crowns; I will leave some links to some singers down below.

Here is some scripture associated with this hymn.

Ephesians 6:13

"Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."

The Lyrics

Verse 1

Soldiers of Christ, arise,

And put your armor on,

Strong in the strength which God supplies

Thro’ His eternal Son.

Strong in the Lord of Hosts,

And in His mighty power,

Who in the strength of Jesus trusts

Is more than conqueror.

Verse 2

Stand, then, in His great might,

With all His strength endued;

And take, to arm you for the fight,

The panoply of God!

That, having all things done,

And all your conflicts past,

Ye may o’ercome thro’ Christ alone,

And stand entire at last.

Verse 3

Leave no unguarded place,

No weakness of the soul,

Take every virtue, every grace,

And fortify the whole.

From strength to strength go on;

Wrestle, and fight, and pray;

Tread all the powers of darkness down,

And win the well-fought day!
