Lyrics to the hymn, Come, Thou Fount Of Every Blessing

Introduction

Hello, and welcome to the Mother of Gooses blog, where I write about hymns, instruments, recipes, and animals.

Come, Thou Fount Of Every Blessing

The Subject At Hand

Today, we are looking at the lyrics to the hymn, Come, Thou Fount Of Every Blessing, by Robert Robinson in 1758.

It's a lot older than I thought it was, so I think that's kind of neat.

If you don't know the tune, follow the links I'll leave down below; I only recommend good singers.

Now, on with the show!

The Lyrics

Verse 1

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,

Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;

Streams of mercy, never ceasing,

Call for songs of loudest praise.

Teach me some melodious sonnet,

Sung by flaming tongues above;

Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it,

Mount of Thy redeeming love.

Verse 2

Here I raise my Ebenezer:

Here by Thy great help I've come;

And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,

Safely to arrive at home.

Jesus sought me when a stranger,

Wand'ring from the fold of God;

He, to rescue me from danger,

Interposed His precious blood.

Verse 3

Oh, to grace how great a debtor

Daily I'm constrained to be!

Let that grace now, like a fetter,

Bind my yielded heart to Thee.

Let me know Thee in Thy fullness;

Guide me by Thy mighty hand,

'Til, transformed, in Thine own image

In Thy presence I shall stand.

Afterwards

What a pretty hymn. It was the first hymn I was really any good at on the violin.

I was playing Mary Had A Little Lamb on my violin, and I realized that both of these songs had similar notes, and I went from there; on my first try, as I was figuring it out, my incredibly musically inclined, and also very hyper critical, parakeet sang along.

Score! 😃

Anyway.

A little wall decoration

God is good to us, and He deserves our greatest praise. Part of praise is singing hymns; I suggest memorizing these wonderful works of art. The hymns, I mean, not the pictures.
