Lyrics to the hymn, Am I A Soldier Of The Cross

Am I A Soldier Of The Cross?

Introduction

 Hello, and welcome to the Mother of Gooses blog, where I write about hymns, instruments, recipes, and animals; I hope that I can answer any questions that you might have.

The Subject At Hand

Today, we are looking at the lyrics to the hymn, Am I A Soldier Of The Cross, by Isaac Watts in 1721; it is a very pretty hymn, and I like it a lot.

If you don't know how the tune goes, I'll leave some links down below.

Now, on with the show!

The Lyrics

Verse 1

Am I a soldier of the cross,

A follow'r of the Lamb?

And shall I fear to own His cause,

Or blush to speak His name?

Verse 2

Must I be carried to the skies

On flow'ry beds of ease,

While others fought to win the prize,

And sailed through bloodied seas?

Verse 3

Are there no foes for me to face?

Must I not stem the flood?

Is this vile world a friend to grace,

To help me onto God?

Verse 4

Sure I must fight if I would reign;

Increase my courage, Lord;

I'll bare the toil, endure the pain,

Supported by Thy Word.

Verse 5

Thy saints in all this glorious war

Shall conquer, though they die;

They see the triumph from afar,

By faith's discerning eye. (By faith they bring it nigh.)

Verse 6

When that illustrious day shall rise,

And all Thy armies shine

In robes of victr'y through the skies,

The glory shall be Thine.

Countryside

Afterwards

It is mighty song; it did not always rhyme, but it is one of my favorite hymns.

Must I be carried to the skies on flow'ry beds of ease?

My fellow Christians, remember that things could always  be worse; our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ face jail time, and even death, for their faith. Yes, life isn't kind to anyone, but we worship the Creator of the universe; and if He knows when a little sparrow falls, surely He sees your troubles.

Pray to God for help, and He will give you aid.

Sky and trees. Oh, and a highway.🙄

I hope that you enjoyed today's post; feel free to share it with your family and friends, and leave a comment.

I send out new content every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and the occasional Random Chatty Day; go to past posts to read more.

Goodbye, and God bless.
