                    Introduction

Hello, and welcome to the Mother of Gooses blog, where I write about hymns, instruments, recipes, and animals.

Today, we are looking at the lyrics to the hymn, I Surrender All, by Judson W. Van DeVenter in 1896.

It is a very nice hymn, and it is one of the songs I remember singing when we first attended our current church.

If you don't know how the tune goes, look up Carrie Underwood on YouTube; she did a great job.

Now, on with the show!

The Lyrics

Verse 1

All to Jesus I surrender,

All to Him I freely give;

I will ever love and trust Him,

In His presence daily live.

Chorus

I surrender all,

I surrender all;

All to Thee, my blessed Savior,

I surrender all.

Verse 2

All to Jesus I surrender,

Humbly at His feet I bow;

Worldly pleasures all forsaken,

Take me, Jesus, take me now.

Chorus

I surrender all,

I surrender all;

All to Thee, my blessed Savior,

I surrender all.

Verse 3¹

All to Jesus I surrender,

Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;

Let me feel the Holy Spirit,

Truly knowing that Thou art mine.

Chorus

I surrender all,

I surrender all;

All to Thee, my blessed Savior,

I surrender all.

Verse 4

All to Jesus I surrender,

Lord, I give myself to Thee;

Fill me with Thy love and power,

Let Thy blessings fall on me.

Chorus

I surrender all,

I surrender all;

All to Thee, my blessed Savior,

I surrender all.

Verse 5

All to Jesus I surrender,

Now I feel the sacred flame;

Oh, the joy of full salvation!

Glory, glory to His name!

Chorus

I surrender all,

I surrender all;

All to Thee, my blessed Savior,

I surrender all.

Afterwards

It really is a nice song; not among my top favorites, but I like to sing it in church.

We need to learn to surrender all to Jesus, as we tend to worry.

A lot.

But Jesus says not to worry, because the birds of the field don't have  means to store food, but they always have enough to eat.

And the flowers don't work for clothes, but they are prettier than a queen dressed in fine linen and silks that wealth can afford.

Not His exact words, but you get the picture.

God wants us to bring our problems to Him, so that He can help us; we need to bring every thought captive to Him, and He will help us.

I promise.

Surrender all to Jesus.
