Lyrics to the hymn, Sweet Hour Of Prayer

A Kalimba, Ocarina, and Native American Flute

     Introduction

Hello, and welcome to the Mother of Gooses blog, where my main thing is hymns.

Today's hymn is one of my new favorites, Sweet Hour Of Prayer. It was written in 1845 by Mr. William W. Walford, and it is one of the best hymns in the world.

In fact, every hymn I like is one of the best hymns in the world; funny how that works.

If you don't how the tune goes, go to YouTube and look up Alan Jackson, or Folksandhymns.

Now, on with the show!

  The Lyrics

Verse 1

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!

That calls me from a world of care,

And bids me at my Father's throne

Make all my wants and wishes known.

In seasons of distress and grief,

My soul has often found relief;

And oft' escaped the tempter's snare

By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

Verse 2

Sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer!

The joys I feel, the bliss I share,

Of those whose anxious spirits burn

With strong desires for thy return!

With such I hasten to the place

Where God, my Savior, shows His face,

And gladly take my station there,

And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Verse 3

Sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer!

That wings shall my petition bear

To Him whose truth and faithfulness

Engage the waiting soul to bless.

And since He bids me seek His face,

Believe His word, and trust His grace,

I'll cast on Him my every care,

And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Verse 4

Sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer!

May I thy consolation share,

'Til from Mount. Pisgah's lofty height

I view my home and take my flight.

This robe of flesh I'll drop, and rise,

To seize the everlasting prize;

And shout, while passing through the air,

"Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer!"

Afterwards

Well, that's it! Isn't it nice?

We all need to pray more often, but it's hard to find time to do that; so I suggest getting a prayer journal.

That way, you can look back at past prayers and have that day's prayer lined up.

If there is something that you want me to cover, let me know in the comments.

If you want to read more, go to past posts while you wait for a Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, or a Random Chatty Day.

Goodbye, and God bless.
