Lyrics to the hymn, Jesus Paid It All

    Introduction

Hello, and welcome to the Mother of Gooses blog, where today, we are looking at the lyrics to the hymn, Jesus Paid It All, by  Elvina M. Hall in 1865.

It is, like most hymns, about how Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins.

If you don't know how the tune goes, go to YouTube and look up Kaleb Brasee, a piano player; he does a good job, and it is good background music.

Now, as I have nothing else to add, on with show!

        The Lyrics

Verse 1

I hear the Savior say,

"Thy strength indeed is small;

Child of weakness, watch and pray,

Find in Me thine all in all."

Chorus

Jesus paid it all,

All to Him I owe;

Sin had left a crimson stain,

He washed it white as snow.

Verse 2

For nothing good have I,

Whereby Thy grace to claim;

I'll wash my garments white,

In the blood of Calv'ry's Lamb.

Chorus

Jesus paid it all,

All to Him I owe;

Sin had left a crimson stain,

He washed it white as snow.

Verse 3

And now complete in Him,

My robe, His righteousness,

Close sheltered 'neath His side,

I am divinely blest.

Chorus

Jesus paid it all,

All to Him I owe;

Sin had left a crimson stain,

He washed it white as snow.

Verse 4

Lord, now indeed I find

Thy pow'r, and Thine alone,

Can change the leper's spots,

And melt the heart of stone.

Chorus

Jesus paid it all,

All to Him I owe;

Sin had left a crimson stain,

He washed it white as snow.

Verse 5

When from my dying bed

My ransomed soul shall rise,

"Jesus died my soul to save,"

Shall rend the vaulted skies.

Chorus

Jesus paid it all,

All to Him I owe;

Sin had left a crimson stain,

He washed it white as snow.

Verse 6

And when before the throne

I stand in Him complete,

I'll lay my trophies down,

All down at Jesus' feet.

Chorus

Jesus paid it all,

Al to him I owe;

Sin had left a crimson stain,

He washed it white as snow.

     Afterwards

It was a lot longer than I thought it was, but that is fine by me.

Mrs. Elvina M. Hall wrote it in church, letting her mind wander as the pastor preached; afterwards, she presented the poem to the pastor, who helped her put it some music someone else had written, and ta-da, the hymn that thousands of believers love.
