Lyrics to the hymn, This Is My Father's world

Introduction

Hello, and welcome to the Mother of Gooses blog, where I write the lyrics to hymns, and the occasional recipe.

Today, the hymn we are looking at is called This Is My Father's World; it was written in 1901 by a Mr. Maltbie Davenport Babcock.

It was originally a poem with sixteen verses, but when it was set to music, only three verses were chosen.

A tree and a bush

Someday I might do the whole poem, but today, I'm just going to do the three that I know. Let me know if you want me to do the whole poem.

Go to YouTube and look up Folksandhymns to find the tune.

Now, on with the show!

The Lyrics

Verse 1

This is my Father's world;

And to my listening ears,

All nature sings

And 'round me rings

The music of the spheres.

This is my Father's world;

I rest me in the thought

Of rocks and trees,

Of skies and seas.

His hand the wonders wrought.

Verse 2

This is my Father's world;

The birds, their carols raise.

The morning light,

The lily white,

Declare their Maker's praise.

This is my Father's world;

He shines in all that's fair.

In the rustling grass

I hear Him pass.

He speaks to me everywhere.

Verse 3

This is my Father's world;

Oh let me ne'er forget,

That though the wrong

Seems oft' so strong,

God is the ruler yet.

This is my Father's world;

The battle is not done.

Jesus who died

Shall be satisfied.

And Earth and Heaven be one.

Afterwards

It really is a gorgeous song, and is a great hymn for nature lovers.

If you saw this post once before, and it seems different, that is because I accidently deleted everything. And then rewrote it.

Ugh.

This has been a baaaaaad day.
