Lyrics to the hymn, Standing On The Promises
Hello, friends and enemies alike, and welcome to the Mother of Gooses blog.
Today, we are looking at the hymn that a Mr. Russel Kelso Carter wrote in 1886 titled Standing On The Promises.
It is currently published in 446 hymnals, which is older than I am!!!
Nevermind.
Point stands, that's a lot. It's a very pretty song, and if you don't know the whole song, go to YouTube and look up Alan Jackson's version of it, or Squirrel 24's lyric video.
Naturally, Alan Jackson doesn't sing the whole song.
Enjoy!
Verse 1
Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let his praises ring;
Glory in the highest I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God!
Chorus
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior!
Standing, standing,
I'm standing on the promises of God!
Verse 2
Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail;
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God!
Chorus
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior!
Standing, standing,
I'm standing on the promises of God!
Verse 3
Standing on the promises I now can see,
Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God!
Chorus
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior!
Standing, standing,
I'm standing on the promises of God!
Verse 4
Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to him eternally by love's strong cord;
Overcoming daily with the Spirit's sword,
Standing on the promises of God!
Chorus
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior!
Standing, standing,
I'm standing on the promises of God!
Verse 5
Standing on the promises I shall not fall,
List'ning every moment to the Spirit's call;
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God!
Chorus
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior!
Standing, standing,
I'm standing on the promises of God!
Well, that's it, people and giraffes alike! I hope you liked today's song, and I hope that you memorize it. Then, when you're having a bad day, you can whisper the words to yourself and hopefully feel better.
I need to try that.
