Lyrics to the hymn, At Calvary
It is was written by William R. Newell in 1895, and is truly one of my favorite hymns.
If you don't know how it goes, look up Squirrel 24 on YouTube; the person singing it did a very good job.
Now, on with the show.
Verse 1
Years I spent in vanity and pride,
Caring not my lord was crucified.
Knowing not I was for me he died,
On Calvary.
Chorus
Mercy there was great and grace was free;
Pardon there was multiplied to me.
There my burdened soul found liberty,
At Calvary.
Verse 2
By God's word at last my sin I learned;
Then I trembled at the law I'd spurned.
'Til my guilty soul imploring turned
To Calvary.
Chorus
Mercy there was great and grace was free;
Pardon there was multiplied to me.
There my burdened soul found liberty,
At Calvary.
Verse 3
Now I've given Jesus everything;
Now, I gladly own him as my king;
Now, my raptured soul can only sing
Of Calvary.
Chorus
Mercy there was great and grace was free;
Pardon there was multiplied to me.
There my burdened soul found liberty,
At Calvary.
Verse 4
Oh, the love that drew salvations plan;
Oh, the grace that brought it down to man;
Oh, the mighty gulf that God did span,
At Calvary.
Chorus
Mercy there was great and grace was free;
Pardon there was multiplied to me.
There my burdened soul found liberty,
At Calvary.
Well, we're done!
I hope you like it as much as I do, and if you don't, I hope you learn to.
